Criticism against Jungian Psychology
Summary of this Website
In Jungian psychology, the “Self” as an archetype (or the mandala which appears in someone’s dream) is the most important concept. It is believed that the Self is curative and develops inner peace. For the Self to present itself is similar to the grace of God. It may be related to God or Buddha. (In that connection Richard Noll wrote on “the central place of the concept of the self”, “which most commonly presents itself as an image of God or as an experience of the god within in the form of a circle or an Indian (Aryan) mandala.” “The Jung Cult” p.137. And he wrote, “Having a god within could lead to the experience of becoming one with God, or merging with this God-force in some way.” Ibid., p.120.)
Jungians believe that the images of God are derived from the Self. What it comes down to is that the concept of the Self is superordinate to that of God. They therefore believe inside that Jungian thought is superior to any other religious thought.
No one shall see God and live (Exodus says, “no one shall see me and live”. 33:20.). And in the realm of myth and folklore, if one communes with God, he will have no contact with the world of mortals. Jungians cannot reject myth or folktale, though they may reject Freudian theory. For the Self to present itself is practically to encounter God. Jungians must not be ambitious for success or be hungry for wealth. They must not be psychotherapists by profession. And they must not want to achieve something great socially. They will have mental breakdowns, if they do. It is the cause of Jung and his followers’ mental illnesses to do so. Their mental illnesses will inflict untold harm on the community. They should withdraw from the world for the sake of society and their own mental health.
